To Infinity and Beyond
Codesign was selected to create the logo and tagline for the German Year in India (2011–12), following a nation-wide pitch involving 21 design studios from across India.
The German Year in India, was conceived to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. While the brief for the pitch mostly focussed on describing the nature of the partnership, our design proposal was driven by the imagined impact of the same. Incredible things can happen when people come together; and when countries come together, the possibilities seem almost endless, infinite. With this idea, both the tagline and the initial logo sketch emerged almost simultaneously. The Möbius Strip used as inspiration for the logo, also had an interesting German connect with its discovery by German mathematician and theoretical astronomer August Ferdinand Möbius.
The logo for the German Year in India symbolises the seamless and sustainable partnership between the two countries and the infinite opportunities that arise out of this relationship. While the commission included only design of the logo, we designed it with the intention that it could extend into a cohesive and engaging system, relevant for use across touchpoints. The overall tone, was bold and vibrant, in the Indian spirit of celebration.
